Airhouses in the Scottish Borders

When it comes to seeking a cosy and family-friendly retreat in the heart of the Scottish Borders, Airhouses in Lauder stands out as a welcoming haven. Nestled in the tranquil beauty of the Lauder countryside, this wheelchair-accessible accommodation promises a unique and unforgettable experience. We stayed in The Ramsay Lodge earlier this year, but I think it would be a beautiful place to stay all year round. Read on for more info, or scroll down to watch the review video.

A Warm Welcome

A visit to Airhouses is a relaxed and accommodating experience. Nestled in the serene Scottish Borders, this family-run gem is designed with inclusivity in mind. For those seeking wheelchair-accessible accommodation, Airhouses rolls out the welcome mat with open arms.

From the moment you arrive, you'll appreciate the thought and care that has gone into making this accommodation accessible. The parking space (with an electric car charging point) is right outside the lodge, and there’s a gradual ramp up to the from door. Small ramps are thoughtfully placed to ensure that those door thresholds don't pose a problem. It's the little things like this that make a big difference, setting the tone for a truly comfortable stay.

The Perfect Getaway

The Ramsay offers two delightful double bedrooms (with one able to be split into a twin), ensuring that you and your family can experience a truly peaceful night's rest. Both bedrooms are equipped with ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom's ensuite features a wetroom raindance shower and a separate bath. While there are no grab rails, you'll find a stand-free toilet frame, along with a comfortable shower chair - we were offered these when booking, so make sure you let Airhouses know your requirements.

With the capacity to sleep four, it's the perfect size for a family escape or a tranquil getaway with friends. The kitchen may not be specifically adapted, but it is well-equipped. Whether you're a culinary enthusiast or simply need the convenience of preparing your meals, you'll find everything you need to whip up a feast or a quick snack.

One of the standout features of The Ramsay is the spacious living and dining area - we did have to move one of the armchairs slightly for me to get past with my wheelchair, but they move easily on the wooden floors. With expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the lush countryside. The natural light pouring in creates a sense of tranquility. There's nothing quite like settling in with a good book, a cup of coffee, and the beautiful countryside just outside your window.

The Great Outdoors at Your Doorstep

The accommodation includes a wrap-around balcony, a perfect spot to sip your morning coffee or enjoy an evening meal in summer. There’s a BBQ on the decking at the front of the house, opening up that option too. The outdoor spaces are an extension of the peaceful surroundings, and as we visited in early summer, we certainly made the most of them!

For a touch of luxury, the Ramsay has a private hot tub, too. There are two wooden steps at the hot tub. While there may not be a hoist, the owner is actively exploring options to make it more accessible.

Pet-Friendly Retreat

Airhouses is a pet-friendly retreat, welcoming your furry friends to join you on this picturesque escape. Millie and Kimber were over the moon with their doggy welcome pack that included towels, bowls, biscuits, and a toy - the latter two being the way to their hearts. They also enjoyed walks around the area on lead, or standing on the decking taking in all the sniffs of the countryside.

A Farm Experience

Situated on a working farm, Airhouses offers a unique glimpse into the authentic rural life of the Scottish Borders. Llamas, ponies, goats, cows, and more call this farm home, making it an enchanting place for animal lovers and families alike. You’re free to wander around and see the animals, or you can arrange to join Damian on his morning rounds feeding the animals.

Honesty Shop Delights

The Honesty Shop, while sadly not wheelchair-accessible, is well-stocked with all your essentials and yummy snacks. There is one step and then a threshold to navigate. It's a charming little spot where you can pick up those last-minute necessities, or indulge in something chocolatey.

In conclusion, Airhouses in Lauder is a lovely wheelchair-accessible place to stay in the Scottish Borders. With two bedrooms, each boasting an ensuite bathroom, The Ramsay is a retreat that caters to all your needs. Whether you're seeking a pet-friendly getaway or a family-friendly escape, Airhouses is ready to offer you a slice of Scottish countryside heaven. It's a place of warmth, inclusivity, and rural charm, inviting you to make lasting memories in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
