Crathie Opportunity Holidays - Aberdeenshire

(ad/invite)

If you’re looking for wheelchair accessible holiday accommodation in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, how about Crathie Opportunity Holidays on the banks of the River Dee?

Crathie is a wee village in Royal Deeside just over an hour from Aberdeen itself. Crathie Opportunity Holidays is nestled in the Old Manse Courtyard. Four granite cottages are on offer, each with slightly different facilities like hoists, electric profiling beds, and wet room showers. When booking, you’re offered a list of additional equipment to borrow free of charge, including freestanding hoists, pressure relief mattresses, and manual wheelchairs.

Both Clunie and Gelder are pet-friendly, but Gairn cottage is allergy-free and therefore no pets are allowed.

As well as the beautiful courtyard, there’s a laundry onsite, a garden room with books and games, a playground, picnic and bbq area, and an activity hut for the kids! If you fancy popping just around the corner, you’ll find yourself at Balmoral. Just over the road is Crathie Kirk, the church the Royal Family use when they’re in residence. And with Ballater a short drive away, you’ll never be short of shops and cafés to visit.

We stayed in both Clunie and Gelder. While we there we put together this short video:

My favourite things about Crathie Opportunity Holidays are:

  • The extensive equipment provided

  • Each cottage has a huge guide to accessible attractions in the area

  • Wheel under units in the kitchen

  • Brilliant bathroom features like the height adjustable sink and clos-o-mat toilet

  • Beautiful granite buildings

  • Very quiet area with lots of wildlife

A couple of things that I think could improve the accommodation:

  • Some modernisation inside - the decor is clean and simple, but dated

  • An enclosed area for dogs

Overall, we had a lovely, relaxing stay and would love to head back to explore more of the local area.

You can book your Crathie Opportunity Holiday here - don’t forget to mention you found them on Wheely Braw!
